Kate, Robert Brooke Kirchhoffer was a Lieutenant in the Plymouth Division of the Royal Marine Light Infantry when he was chosen to serve with the Marine Battalion about to be sent to South Africa for service in the Zulu War. Kirchhoffer was appointed Quartermaster of the R.M.L.I. section of the battalion. Tom
