PostSubject: Re: Royal Artillery   Isandlwana - Royal Artillery EmptyThu Apr 19, 2012 10:54 pm

yeah and that poor artillery man always gets painted WRONG(probably due to the annoying lack of interest in that branch) but he is wearing the other ranks frock with the 9 buttons and the give away the red piping that goes around the bottoms and back of the uniform.. they are sculpted on THIS figure and no on any other artilleryman that are offered by Empress. Indeed this information comes from the osprey book british fores in zulu land is even there has only one plate showing a SINGLE artilleryman, hell even the osprey book "the royal artillery" thought it would be best to represent this period with an officer in full dress order.. yes very useful to us that is.. (sarcasm) i dont understand why they didnt just get the guns from empress too? they are really nice(if a little fiddly to put together)

does anyone know what color the guns would have been painted? i have been using a basic "equipment" grey color but i have no idea because, as i have mentioned before no one seems to care!

Hi MadDrDevo.
Yes it is difficult to find any technical info on the R.A uniforms . Have you read or seen '' Uniforms & Weapons Of The Zulu War '
by Christopher Wilkinson - Latham ? . He describes the uniform in page 26 - 28 . There is a non colour picture of an Officers Tunic which says it belonged to 'The Prince Imperial ' . Maybe if they have a museum it may be best to contact them personally .
Ian Knight's Book ' Zulu ' ( It's a Large Silver Book ) has a coloured plate of a Corp of the R.A . Hope this as been of some help .
cheers 90th. Salute

Hi 90th,
Correct.
The picture of the canon in the preceding posts is not a 7pdr RML, as used, and lost, at Isandlwana. The one shown seems to be a rather ancient muzzle loader.

regards,

barry
