| Hi DB. I think there was a camp not far from Sihayo's Kraal which also had misgivings and these have been posted previously . Dunbar threatened to resign his commision after he spoke up of the poor position and fortification Crealock basically called him a coward ! . This was a man who had seen much action I think starting in the Crimea ? Indian Mutiny etc etc . Happy to be corrected but I know I've posted on this subject previously . cheers 90th. |

| Hi DB14
For the history of the camps before Isandhlwana:
1/ Friday 10 January 1879,the centre column was encamped,on the right bank of the Buffalo River at RD.
2/ Le soir, a camp was formed on the zulu side of the Buffalo River. And after the battle of Bashee Riversome Troops Returned to Their camp at RD.
3/ But a other camp was formed AGAIN on the zulu side of the Buffalo River .At this camp of the Bashee River,a low wall was formed at the exposed faces(Alas, it will not be the same at Isandhlwana. ..)
4/ The Friday 17 January 1879,Chelmsford rode out to the Isandhlwana hill, where a fuell was there obtainable ,he had selected as the NEXT halting place of the column ...
5/ The Monday 20 January 1879,the centre column advancing and the troops marching from the Buffalo camp were preceded by those who had been encamped on the Bashee ,and the whole column moved on the Isandhlwana hill ( Also ,erroneously, called Isandula. The name Isandhlwana signifies"the little hand") accompagned by a hundred of wagons for regimental transport.
The advance of the column was slow but by about mid-day ,however, the camp had been laid out on the eastern side of the precipitous crag know as the Isandhlwana hill ...
Total 4 camps with three in Zululand for January 20, 1879.
Cheers
