PostSubject: WAR AND PEACE IN SOUTH AFRICA 1879-1881 by Dr. Paul Butterfield.   WAR AND PEACE IN SOUTH AFRICA 1879-1881 by Dr. Paul Butterfield. EmptyMon Oct 01, 2012 9:16 pm

I came across a very interesting volume in a 2nd hand bookstore called WAR AND PEACE IN SOUTH AFRICA 1879-1881 by Dr. Paul Butterfield.

Half of it was the letters of Philip Anstruther* and the second half (or more) were the memoirs/diary/journal of Edward Essex.

Maybe you are just concerned with the memorial here but if there is something in his memoirs you are interested in, I can look it up.

Subjectively, I'd say this book is of more value to people interested in Majuba and/or the Boer War, but it has value for the AZW enthusiast as well.

There were 1000 copies made. (My copy is #579) The original 1000 subscribers are all listed.

Scripta Africana Series

ISBN 0 947025 17 0 (Leatherbound Edition)
ISBN 0 947025 18 9 (De Luxe Edition)

It's a large format leather bound maroon volume that comes with a slip case and a tassel.
