| "Charles Sainsbury Moody was born in Wiltshire, England on 17 June 1855. His father Charles Edward Moody who was born at Castle Cary in Somerset England emigrated to the South Africa with his wife Mary Jane and young family in about 1870. Trooper Charles is listed as having been slightly wounded at Chief Johannes’s New Stadt on 9 June 1879 during the operations against Sikukuni while serving with the Lydenberg Rifles. He is listed on the Forsyth medal roll as Trooper under the Lydenberg Rifles for the bar 1879 and perhaps also as Trooper S. Moody under the Transvaal Rangers for the bar 1879. As is well known, the Border Horse, famed for their heroic service during the Zulu War, played the leading role during the subsequent campaign against Sikukuni." |
