New to my collection, illustration by Orlando Norie from a Victorian photograph album showing the Naval Brigade in Zululand. Need to find a suitable photograph to go with it.

Steve,
Nice illustration by Norie. Since the men in the Naval Brigade are wearing the uniform of the men of HMS Shah, perhaps a photo of that ship would be nice.

These old 'pre Dreadnought' ships just ooze class and character, even the Dreadnought's themselves had that classic look about them, big ships, big guns, and presumably 'big costs'. Ah! the romance of the sea.

Ha Ha, Hi Les.
No mate, not Hornblower, he's a bit too early for the AZW.
Although the great 'Jacky Fisher' was around at the time, I don't think he was involved in the AZW, but he eventually became Admiral of the fleet, and it was during his first stint as first sea lord (1904-1910), that the Dreadnought all big gun battleship was developed. He was a great naval reformer, innovator and strategist, and more or less developed the Royal Navy as we know it today.
