Hello all,
I've recently come across a photo of a memorial on the island of St. Helena which includes the following inscription;
GUNR E. FLANAGAN DIED IN ZULULAND 3RD MAY 1879 AGED 21 YEARS
CORPL G. OLDEN DIED IN ZULULAND 8TH MAY 1879 AGED 29 YEARS
I have found both in the medal roll under 7th Bde No.8 Bty, & both are listed as 'Died on Service' (although Cpl Olden is spelt 'Oldin'). However, neither appears on the Regimental Afghanistan/South Africa 1877-81 Memorial at Larkhill - does anyone have any information on these two men, as it seems strange that they are not commemorated...
Regards,
Tim

Tim I don't know if this is a coincidence but there is a Gunner E Flanagan RGA on the British Legion Memorial in Salford. There are records here but I cant access [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
