Thanks for posting.
Suggest you also read Charles van Onselen's book, "The Masked Raiders of the Transvaal" . Some cross referencing would be quite enlightening, I think. van Onselen tracks a few of these to Australia too
That era abounded with the glory seekers, some having actually been in the AZW and absconded, others saw their service period completed, yet others never served or saw action, but rode on the knowledge that any checks on their false claims and integrity could only be done with great difficulty.
