| If the book is titled ' The Yellow Shield ' it's certainly fiction for mine ! , I doubt there were Yellow Shields in the Zulu Army as I'm aware , there were Captives in the camp during the war , Grandier and Cornelius Vijn ( guest according the zulus ) 90th |

| I would agree with 90th. This is a similar book: The story of Jabulani ka Sihayo. " I ran and ran, screaming the worst curses I knew, hurtling completely alone into the enemy lines. There was thunder in my ears, but no lightning struck me down as I threw myself at the red soldiers, lashing out at their faces with my fists. they must have been amazed to see a Zulu boy suddenly dive into their shallow trenches, but in a minute they had swarmed over me and pinned me to the ground. For the next hour, while the battle raged around me, I lay struggling under the body of an English soldier as he handed up ammunition to his comrades."
Sounds brilliant but total fiction.
Cheers

| Hi Springy Yes the Jabulani story is also fiction , but there are reports from the Battle at Gingindlovhu of a zulu boy making it to the Shelter Trench , and was sat upon by a member of the Naval Brigade from memory , this zulu boy by reports , finished up in the Royal Navy ! , I also think from memory he went to the UK ! . 90th |

| Hi 90th The Jabulani story is actually a fun piece of fiction. Its based on him being the younger brother of Mehlokazulu. And your spot on, the author Vince Cross has woven his story around the historical facts. Very much like David Ebsworth did with 'Kraals of Ulundi'. Its worth a read, not for history, but for the very vivid scenery it conjures up. ISBN 0 439 98107 7
