| Somerset County Museum, 13th Prince Albert's Light Infantry.
Detailed research into some of those objects is uncovering fascinating information. This includes the story of a bass drum which belonged to The 13th Prince Albert’s Light Infantry, later The Somerset Light Infantry.Distinctive markings on the drum identify it as the same one that appears in a photograph of 1879. Taken in Zululand, the photograph shows the regimental band within a far-reaching African landscape. It was this band which famously marched the British army on to the battlefield near Ulundi, the Zulu capital, where the warrior army of King Cetshwayo was finally defeated. The drum was present at a turning-point in British and African history, and will take its place as a key object in the re-developed Somerset Military Museum
