Death of Barbara Tyrrell

The South African artist, Barbara Tyrrell, has died aged 103. In the 1940's she began making detailed paintings of Zulus wearing traditional dress and regalia, thereby making a unique record of cultural items that were being lost and forgotten. The largest collection of her works is in the Killie Campbell Museum in Durban, a place well known to researchers of the Zulu War. Prints of her work were once commonly seen in book and art shops, and are probably still to be found on Internet salesrooms.
