| Nice photos Aussie.
According to Droogleevers book Durnford's movements were as follows.
14 January. Moved towards Middle Drift, arrived at top of Kranskop and received the rebuke from Chelmsford. Returned to camp.
15 January. Received orders to proceed to RD. 1st and 2nd NNC left at Kranskop.
18 January. Arrived at Sanspruit.
20 January. Arrived at RD at dusk.

| I have used this thread to post the following simply because it is the most recent of many on Durnford. Just come across his army record which I have not seen before. It struck me that it uses an interesting formulation of words for who was in command at Isandhlwana. Army hedging its bets even then! "present and in command at the battle of Isandula when he was killed - (Lt General Lord Chelmsford in chief command)."[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Steve |

| Hi Steve
What a great post.
Who would have filled this out?? Would this have been done by his own Regt. or someone like Lord Chelmsford's sidekick Lieut.-Col. Crealock?
