It is with deep regret that I have just learnt of the death of my dear friend, His Royal Highness Velekhaya Abraham Shange, at the age of 81 years.
Prince Shange was the Great-Grandson of Prince Dabulamanzi kaMpande, and justifiable proud of that fact. Those of us who knew him will be aware that he normally carried a staff belonging to his Great-Grandfather.
He was a wit, a raconteur and a great ambassador for the Zulu Nation.

He will indeed, he was affronted that the name of forebear had been omitted by KwaCulture in their brochure promoting their project at iSandlwana.
He was at equally at ease with Zulu War enthusiasts and those who visited the battlefields, as can be seen in this photograph that he cherished.

He once attended a talk I gave at Chatham on Isandhlwana and at the conclusion on finding I had a relative killed there, immediately and without any loss of dignity and in a spirit of fellow-feeling threw open his arms and hugged me. The sentiment had a profound effect on me and I was greatly moved thereby. I have never forgotten him and never will.
