I've just come back from a few days away visiting Stonehenge and Salisbury and it seems I just can't get away from the AZW. The B&B we stayed in in South Newton had a Martini-Henry carbine up on the wall. The couple who ran the B&B were in their 80s and he told me he'd bought it as a young man when he was at RD! He knew that it didn't come from and was used at RD but he simply bought it there. I've come across very few M-H carbines so it was quite something to be able to handle one. It was broken with the lever permanently jammed down but surprisingly light and easy to handle.

I wonder if it had a more intimate connection to the AZW apart from being of a type used at a the time.

Did it have a date stamp on it or anything?

Cheers

Simon

None that I could see - it was pretty grubby and worn - it looked like it had been 'in the wars', so to speak!
