This action resulted in the death of SGT .E. SMITH and CORP . POMFRET. ( POMPET. J. 11/ 910 2/4TH REGT IN THE MEDAL
ROLL BOOK) . SGT. E SMITH is not listed as K.I.A. neither is the corp in the medal roll book. SMITH"S MEDAL has been on ebay
twice , 1st listing 14/12/07 opening price 3,995 quid or buy it now 4,495 quid. it recieved 587 hits and no bids. Second listing
was 23/1/08 opening bid was 3,795 quid no buy it now option. Still wasnt sold but recieved 613 hits. Before i forget SMITH is
listed as a SGT-MAJOR in the medal roll book his regt number being 1641, this is the only E. SMITH with the rank of SGT on the
2/4th roll. Going through my records SGT . E SMITH"S medal appeared on ebay again on 10/3/08 , opening bid 3,595 quid or
buy it now 3,795 , it didnt sell but had 457 hits. And once again listed on 11/5/08 opening bid 3,395 no buy it now option.
Failed to sell had 394 hits. Best to my knowledge it hasnt been listed again.

They are listed in TAVENDERS CASUALTY ROLL. as killed luneberg 8/9/79. The wording i used came from
the seller who was selling the medals on ebay, im not disputing any facts , just mentioning how they arent listed
as K.I.A in medal roll :lol!: .Off to bed presently , will list the story of the altercation tommorow. I think it is in one
of IAN KNIGHT"S books.

Yes he was K.I.A.

He was killed in action at Leneberg on the 8th September 1879. His regimental service number was 1641.

That's the only info I have on him.

Feb 1879 These 3 companies continue on viâ Colenso, Ladysmith, and Newcastle to
Utrecht and Greytown, from there they were despatched to Balte’s Spruit, Conference Hill, and Lüneberg. During this march Major Blake and Capt. Moore were surrounded by a Zulu impi (which, it is understood, was under orders to join the King), but were not attacked.
The companies of the battalion were distributed 'in reserve' over a wide area of country, including the Utrecht district, Potgreter’s Farm, Lüneberg, Balte’s Spruit, Conference Hill, etc.

Jul 1879 After the battle of Ulundi, the companies were relieved by those of the 24th Regiment of Foot and then proceeded to Lüneberg and Standerton in the Transvaal.
6th Sept 1879 Colonel Bray, with three companies of the regiment, assisted by the Frontier Light Horse and a detachment of Engineers, blew up the caves known as Mbilini’s, in the neighbourhood of the Ntombe River.
Sept 1879 Manyanyoba, the independent chief who had long given great trouble, now surrendered. He had been holed up in the Mbilini's Cave, so commonly referred to as Manyanyoba's Cave.
