| Hi All, spent all yesterday morning on this with some results, As i have already written Estella remarried in 1926 to W.E. Fallows, she died in 1942. Her probate mentions a Albert Cecil Miller as beneficiary. On the 1911 census, address 61 Balmoral Terrace, Newcastle-on-Tyne, Head John Miller born 1868 insurance agent, son Cecil born 1896. daughter Estella born 1895, William 1895, Louise 1898, mother in law Jane Todd Nicholson born 1846 Penrith. This must be the correct family to many coincidence for it not to be. So Estella Nicholson marrird [Miller Fallows] cannot find a marriage in the UK BmDeaths so i wonder if she married Miller in South Africa, also a birth date of 1868 rules him out for being in the Zulu War, [but is his father the James Johnson Miller born circa 1848 but i cannot find anything to confirm this.]. Albert Cecil served WW1 in the Royal Marines address 61 Balmoral Terrace, his next of kin is brother William. He died in Sept Qtr 1985 in Brokenhurst Hampshire. On the 1901 census address 14 Balmoral Terrace, the Mother Jane Nicholson born 1841 South Shields, daughter Alice born 1880. Jane dies in Newcastle in either 1929 or 1931. From this we can say Estella Nicholson married John Miller about 1894 but where?? Still cannot work out John Miller death in WW1. Rai Keynshamlighthorse Rai Keynshamlighthorse |

| I had the same problem finding Estella's first Husband, James Johnson Miller, he most have joined one of the Colonial regiments. I have looked up newspaper articles and nurses in the Zulu and Boer war but have been unable to come up with her name, that's why I ask if there was a maiden name for Estella, and whether she went by Stella as mentioned in the article above.
The article states that she lost six sons out of the nine that served in WWI, only three came home.
Estella was probably nursing only for short periods of time, except the Zulu war perhaps, the rest of the time busy raising such a large family. Her nursing in WWI, could have been at home in the UK. There is no mention of her being in uniform or a member of the RAMC, of which I have checked.
Difficult this one. |
