"Captain Ireland served in the Zulu war in 1879, and was present in the engagement at Gingindhlovu and at the reliefof Ekowe (Medal with Clasp). Served in the Boer war of 1881, and was present in the engagements at Lang's Nek and the Ingogo River"

Qtr Mstr J. Ireland 3/ 60th served with the regt during the war , taking part in the advance to , and relief of Etshowe , present Gingindlovhu , the advance of Crealock's Divis to Port Durnford , and the second Advance to Ulundi . Did he survive the 1st Transvaal War ? . From memory there were many killed at Ingogo and I think Lang's Nek ? . 90th
