Subject: British Wagon 'flags' Fri Aug 30, 2019 10:05 am
Hi
I have opened my trap on a wargames Forum and said that somewhere, I have read that British wagons had flags or pennants' on them to indicate if they held Ammunition or other things.....
I think they were smallish square ones on the right front of the wagon......
Now for the life of me, I can't find where I have read it......
Does anyone know what colours where used for what things.....or have I can completely mad and dreamed it?
thanks
Simon

Simon,
Wagon identification pennants were square in shape.
Red = An ammunition wagon.
Blue = A Commissariat wagon.
Red (Upper) and White divided diagonally = Wagons attached to the Staff.
Red (Upper) and Blue divided diagonally = Royal Artillery wagon.
Red (Upper) and Green divided diagonally = Regimental wagon in this case the 24th.
Red (Upper) and Yellow divided diagonally = Wagons attached to locally raised units.
White with a Red Cross = Hospital wagons and Ambulances.
Any use?

Simon,
No problem, happy to help.
I’ll dig out some wagons photographs and see if I have any with flags.
