    Isandlwana solving the enigma Empty
PostSubject: Re: Isandlwana solving the enigma   Isandlwana solving the enigma EmptyFri Nov 12, 2021 8:35 am

Ive been asked to give an outline of the book.
Many years ago I posed a number of questions for myself.
The route taken by Durnford and the Rocket Battery
The positions of Barker and Scott.
Where did Barker meet the Rocket Battery
Where was the Rocket Battery destroyed.
Why was Johnson left on his own.
Why did Durnford go to the donga.
What where the actions of the mounted colonials.
What was the origin of the iron cross on the battlefield and what does it mark.
The book therefore is a series of linked essays offering answers or solutions to these questions. It was written originally for publcation on this forum but got just to big with over 200 pages, 90 od photos around 15 maps, 7 completely original and the inclusion of all the evidence I have used, thats some where in the order of 40 statements printed in full, not excerpts.
There one or two other digressions Ive touched on but that is the general concept.
    Enjoy.

    Cheers

Interesting, I have number 18 allocated to me by Aulette I doubt however that it would carry over to a UK distributor. She confirmed today that they still have no pricing details from the Pinetown warehouse.

    Morning all
Just received a message from Aulette this morning regarding the limited edition hardback books.
The hardbacks are now available but only from SA and are R799 each. P+P International Airmail to the UK is R1622 (for two)
Payment is by voucher via an affiliated company website.

Kate the paper back will be available in the UK within the next two weeks at a far cheeper rate. The postal costs out of SA are horrendous as you well know from the parcel I sent to you. I have asked Aulette why they cannot send around 50 LE hard cover to the uk as freight and so reduce the costs dramatically, unfortunatly they turned that down on the basis that they were all numbered???????

    Frank,

Personally, I think that is an ill-judged decision.

The postage costs are absolutely ridiculous.

Folks I cant but agree, however its out of my hands. I obviously want to get as many sales as possible and that isnt from a financial angle.
Possibly one or two e mails to Aulette asking her to bulk send to the UK may have some impact after all 30 degrees south do have to look at this as a financial endevour and selling purely to a SA market will not work for the LE.

I would add by the way that the postal charges are not of Aulette's doing but rather our bold leader and his merry mens need for new BMW's on an ongoing basis.

    The response from Aulette:Hi Frank,

It is unfortunate that the postage from SA is so expensive … also had a lot of flack from some customers and two have cancelled their order.

Regrettably, the LE books cannot be shipped to the UK due to the numbering system. We have sent stock of the soft cover to the UK.

    Regards,
    Aulette

It's a shame that we can't get to purchase the hardback copies without paying silly money for shipping - the link here gives UK purchasers a cheaper option by buy in advance with free postage via the magic of e bay [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Update for those waiting for Frank's book.
Since putting my order in at the beginning of February I had heard nothing back in relation to shipping or tracking.
Apparently Shirley at Pinetown Printers was responsible for sending out the books.
I contacted Aulette again last night and she chased up Shirley who contacted me this morning and said her e-mail wasn't working and my books had been despatched on the 10th February.
She also provided a tracking number.
If anyone is waiting and has not heard anything it may be worth dropping Shirley a line:-

Received to day from Global Book marketing - UK distributors:

    Hello Julian,

We’ve just heard back from our shippers that the stock is awaiting clearance and should get to our warehouse next week. Unfortunately, our distributor’s website is having some issues so the link for pre-ordering is not yet visible. I hope this will be resolved shortly and will keep you updated.

    Hi Kate

I have the same problem, I got my tracking number and tried to see its progress last night after my book leaving their officers 2 weeks ago.

I just found out the tracking number does not work while in transit, makes sense from Africa

wait another 10 days while paying absorbent freight charges I was told, this will be the last time I will be getting anything posted from Africa

Exactly why I ceased purchasing items in Sth Africa a while ago once I realised their Postal service had turned to CRAP! . Couriers are far to costly , luckily for me I get over there and therefore buy what I need when there , although.... Covid has skuttled that for the time being , I'm lucky enough to have a mate over there near Durban who kindly went to pick up my copy of Frank's book ..... direct from the Publisher . Just need to meet up with you Frank when I'm there hopefully in Sept &Oct !? .

For anyone still waiting for their books I contacted Shirley yesterday and got this repsonse this monrning:-
    Hi Kate
Please see the response from our Post Office below.
    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Good day
All items will unfortunately  be delayed  due to backlogs and limited flights leaving and entering the country of destination. Countries like Australia have just opened up their borders after nearly 2 years, so the backlogs will be quite huge. The office of posting should have notified you of these delays.
At the moment there is no scan of your items in the country of destination as yet.
For future correspondence, please email  CustomerservicesKZN@postoffice.co.za
    Thanks a lot.

Not great when I spent £78 on p+p. I know things have been a bit 'unusual' over the last year or two but for that amount I would have thought they would have used Fed EX or UPS. Those books you sent me Frank from Quagga only took 5 days to arrive.
Course it doesn't explain how Bill has his. Bill can I ask who delivered the book, was it the Royal Mail?

Its all up the creek Kate, the reason it was not sent via FED EX or UPS because its less affordable to them and getting any service from  CustomerservicesKZN@postoffice.co.za
    is wishful thinking.

I bought about 9 prints from UK Ebay last week and I have nearly all them delivered already so backlogs  is  just an excuse.

Patience is a virtue Kate. please update me when yours arrive.

I’m hoping the book will be available on Amazon/ kindle at some stage in the future it gets delivered instantly and is generally cheaper…many businesses using covid as an excuse for poor service, I feel sorry for frank Allewell as the author, he obviously wants as many people as possible to read his book but is being scuppered by an inefficient supply chain..

Further update from Shirley about why the postage for my two books cost R1,622,00.

    "Hi Kate
We sent it international airmail. And also we have to consider the weight."

I feel sorry for Frank too Danny. Releasing you're first book should be a happy, rewarding experience and it must be very frustrating for him when that experience is disrupted by a third party. A third party to which he has no control.

    Hi Kate
As you're aware I live in Australia .....as for the excuse saying that Australia has opened it's borders for the first time in 2 years ,
we did for travellers etc , not for books , parcels were still coming to Australia in record numbers , our borders were closed to travellers etc , there's no possible reason to use the excuse countries had closed borders etc etc , Rubbish of the highest order , the Mail was still arriving but at times it was a little slower.
