TO THE ALTAR AT 74. Romance of a Chelsea Pensioner. Mr John Wilson, a Chelsea pensioner, is to be married in December at the Chelsea Chapel, Lower Sloan Street, to Miss Mary Ann Gould, of Bristol. Mr Wilson, who is 74 years of age, is the third Chelsea pensioner to become betrothed or to marry during the past few weeks. Mr Wilson carries his years remarkably well, and might be taken for a much younger man. has a long army record, and took part in the Zulu War in 1878 and the Egyptian Campaign in 1882. Mr Wilson said to an interviewer that life in the Chelsea Hospital was not the life for an active man. " Every day I take a walk of eight or so miles. On the day of marriage I intend to apply for 28 days' leave, and when this has expired I shall put in for my discharge. I have £200 in the bank, and future bride also has little money saved. We intend to settle down in Bristol, and we shall be happy and comfortable together." Mr Wilson became a widower two years ago.

As a shot in the dark this could be 3606 John Wilson 3/60th 1879 clasp as they also took part in the 1882 campaign in Egypt as the KRRC. The 1878 date in the article perhaps being incorrect.
