Henry William Eason was a Chief Yeoman of Signals aboard HMS Shah. After having served on the Pacific Station, where he was present in the action against the Peruvian rebel ship Huascar, he was returning to England aboard the "Shah" when that ship was diverted to Durban. Eason served ashore with the Naval Brigade at the Lower Tugela, and then with the Eshowe Relief Column. He was present at the Battle of Gingindlovo. He later became sick and was sent down to the Addington Hospital at Durban where he eventually recovered and was sent back aboard the ship. Eason was entitled to the South Africa Medal with the "1879" clasp.
