| Henry Eason was a member of HMS Shah Naval Brigade during the Zulu War. The Shah was returning to England after completing a tour in the Pacific. When the Shah arrived at St. Helena her commanding officer Captain Bradshw upon hearing of the disaster at Isandhlwana immediately took the Shaw to Durban to render what assistance he could. Henry Eason went ashore as part of the naval brigade. He participated in the relief of Eshowe and the Battle of Gingindlova. He later became sick and was taken down to the hospital in Durban.
A large portion of his diary was re-printed in The Naval Miscellany, Volume VII, and is available on line. Some pages are unavailable for reading, but what is there makes interesting reading.
The Diary starts on page 327 and covers the time from 4 Feb through 7 May, 1879.

| Unfortunately, google books blocks the diary out and is not available "on-line". I have a copy on order, will let you know if it was worth the money :) |

| Hey there - if you are still interested in reading Henry Eason's diaries as they relate to the Zulu War, I may be able to help.
Henry was my great-several-times grandfather.

| Hi folks, give me a few days and I'll work out how best to make this material available. There is quite a lot of the diary which is not related to the Zulu War, and it would be good to make it all available to historians in a coherent form.

| I did get my copy related to the Zulu war. It was a quick fairly good read, and pretty interesting summary of life during the campaign, no regrets to paying the rather steep price. I look forward to Kit's "link" of making the entire diary available, it would surely be a good reference for life on board ship.
