Hi Kate

Never took part in the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.

His Medals were sold sometime back and this is what is said about his medals.

SA MEDAL BAR 1879 76 PTE F ASHBY 57TH FOOT. QSA 1 BAR CC. 9491 CPL F ASBY MIDDX REGT.
SAGS medal is renamed.
WITH MEDALS IS A NEWSPAPER CUTTING ABOUT HIM BEING ONE OF THE FEW ZULU WAR SURVIVORS TO VOLUNTEER FOR SERVICE IN THE 1ST W/WAR. WHY HE AWARDED HIMSELF A ZULU WAR MEDAL AND SPUN THE TALE ABOUT SURVIVING THE WAR IS A MYSTERY AS HE NEVER WAS IN THE 57TH FOOT.

Blimey Andy thats quite a length to go to to back up a false claim, having a medal made up.
I wonder who he was trying to impress?
