Natal Witness Wednesday 1st June 1881
Willoughby's Horse
Col. Willoughby's well known features were seen smiling round the town last Monday. He is well bronzed after his lengthy picnic on the Brobdignagian fields of Kaffraria and Griqualand but is as hearty and winsome as of old. They say his troop is about to be disbanded. 'Twere pity it 'twere true!

Natal Witness 8th July 1881
The Cape Argus recently wrote "Colonel Willoughby has been arrested in Natal at the instance of an auctioneer and hotel keeper with whom the famous corps of Horse had run up a score of nearly £600. Some curious stories are current with reference to this regiment and we think the Government would do well to get its affairs cleared up with all possible despatch"
