The Haverfordwest and Milford Haven Telegraph February 18, 1914.

The story of the elopement of the young wife of an old pensioner with a soldier was arrested at Pembroke on Saturday.
The parties were George McNealy, a gunner in the Royal Garrison Artillery, stationed in Pembroke Dock and Elizabeth Griffiths of Jameson, and they were brought before Capt Loftus Adams and Dr Saunders upon a charge of stealing three medals and eight bars, the property of John Henry Jones.
Superintendent Thomas stated that the medals included two South Africa war medals. Jones lodged with Mrs Griffiths and her husband at Jameson. Mrs Griffiths is 22 years of age, and her husband is an old age pensioner, aged 74.

The article goes on to say how they were eloping and going to turn the medals into broaches, etc.

Sadly the article does not mention his regiment.
If we can assume the third medal to be LSGC, (maybe) the other two with eight bars could indicate Zulu war, or Boer wars.
If one were for firstly the Zulu war could this be one of the John Jones, Rorke's Drift defenders?
Was there a John H Jones on record at Rorke's Drift or out with LC's column?
Long shot I know but eight bars seems to imply Zulu war to me.

Hi All

Long shot I know, but was there a John Henry Jones at Rorkes Drift? I know there were two John Jones at RD but did either have a second Christian name Henry?

Eddie
There was no John Henry Jones at Rorke's Drift. Indeed there was no man of that name as far as is known in the regiment.
