| Natal Witness 4th September 1880 Lieutenant N Sadleir of the King's Dragoon Guards, brough an action in the Supreme Court against Mr E. L. St John Greaves to recover £75, being the balance of purchase money due on the racing mare 'Diana'. Mr Greaves refused payment on account of the mare not being equal to Lieut Sadleir's representations. The case stands over. AZW roll shows:- Lieutenant Sadlier N.H.H. 1879 clasp I've been unable to find out what the initials H. H. stand for. In 1882 Harts he is shown 2nd Dragoon Guards with the following note :- 'Captain Sadlier served with the King's Dragoon Guards in the Zulu War of 1879, in the squadron under Major Marter, including the cavalry affair at Erzungayan (Medal with Clasp)' Retired 1894 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Evening Mail - Wednesday 23 May 1894 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Eastern Daily Press - Wednesday 07 March 1900 [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Waterford Standard - Saturday 19 March 1938

| Kate,
Hart’s 1879 only names him as Nicholas Sadlier. Likewise The London Gazette of 21st December 1869, when he purchased his commission as an Ensign in the 29th (Worcestershire) Regiment dated 22nd December 1869. Cornet 1st (King’s) Dragoon Guards - 31st May 1871 vice P.D. O’Brien who exchanges. L.G. 30.5.71. Lieutenant - 28th October 1871. Captain - 2nd Dragoon Guards Queen’s Bays Seconded as Adjutant Auxiliary Forces 11th October 1881.
Throughout he appears as Nicholas or simply N.
E. L. St. John Greaves was a former N.N.C. officer.

| What intrigues me is Sadlier becoming Sadleir?
In the online biography of his son, Brigadier Lionel Sadleir-Jackson, his father is given as Major Henry Sadleir-Jackson.
