Further to a conversation about wet and dry dongas - if (and it is if) Isandlwana was supposed to be entrenched occupied for longer than a temporary basis.

Where did British intend to get the water from - OK the units had water carts (which could be filled back at the river and brought up) for drinking and cooking but what about the oxen and horses - were they to be taken to the river/stream back down the RD track?

Cheers

Sime

The Dongas generally contain water however the majority of this is stagnant and would likely be avoided.

They did have their watercarts obviously but both rivers behind would have been well used I’m sure.

With livestock/horses I suspect they’d be lead back to the rivers to drink.
