Gleeson. — Quartermaster and Hon. Lieut. Patrick John Gleeson, Army Service Corps, died Aug. 14th, 1900, at Naauwpoort. He was born Dec, 1861, and having served in the ranks nearly nineteen years, was promoted quartermaster, with the hon. rank of lieut., in March, 1900. He had served in the Zulu Campaign 1879, and was awarded the medal.

Also looking for information on Patrick John Gleeson. Patrick is my wifes great uncle and we would be very interested in finding out which regiment he was with (I think I have him on the 1881 census with the 2/18th regiment in Hartley Witney) and where he served.

Patrick had a son Augustine who was killed 2 June 1917 in France/Flanders and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.

Have just had a reply on the Victorian Wars Forum:

[i]Sure enough C/1528 Pte P.Gleeson ASC is listed on the roll. He wasn't entitled to any clasp to his medal though, the implication of that being that he served in the period of the Zulu campaign but remained on the Natal side of the Tugela River.
The "C/...." part of his number denotes Commissariat.[/i]

The reply also advised:

[i]As an aside, also in the ASC Comissariat was C/958 2nd Cpl A.F Gleeson, 1877-8-9 clasp
Any connection?[/i]

Not sure if there is a connection as yet.

Firstly welcome to the forum.

There are a total number of 11 Gleeson's listed on the medal roll.

The only other information I have on Patrick is:-

GLEESON - Lieutenant Patrick John - Army Service Corps - Died at Naauwpoort. 14th Aug. 1900. Aged 38. Born December 1861.
He was buried in New Noupoort Cemetery, Noupoort, Northern Cape.

Thanks for that, having that information I find that I can download a picture of the actual grave from the War Graves Photographic Project. I will post the picture here when recieved.

Hoping I can find out a little more about his Zulu Wars involvement.

I must admit I am confused by this - was Patrick a member of the Naval Brigade or was the ASC attached to the Naval Brigade?

I do believe that this post has been posted under the incorrect section, It should be moved from the Naval section as I cannot find any connection with them.
