Hi Steve.

Yes, I have read somewhere that the regiment had to apply for special permission to use the short lived 'Silver wreath with XXIV', and permission must have been granted for this, however, strictly speaking the SWB are not really entitled to this as they were not the 24th and the silver wreath was not presented to them. The Silver wreath (immortelles), was laid on the colour of 24th (2nd Warwickshire) regiment by the hand of HM Queen Victoria, so this was their honour and not the SWB's. Likewise, the sphinx was also presented to the regiment and worn as the collar badge of the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) regiment, so again, strictly speaking it was not the SWB's. Also all pre 1881 honours and awards are not the SWB's (or the later amalgamated regiments), they rightly belong to their predecessors, however, as in the case of the old 24th, they very rarely get a mention having been discarded and substituted by the SWB.

I don't think your second point was meant for me, as I fully agree that David Jenkins was at RD fighting alongside his mates.

I see from one of your previous posts that you also have now become a member of what is called round here 'The Wrinkly Club' (OAP's). I have been a member of this 'club' a number of years now and creak my way about with other fellow 'club' members, the bus pass comes in handy though.

Hi Les.

Can't hear a word on the first vid you posted (which might be just as well)  Suspect  LOL.

But I can hear the sound on the second one (Warwickshire Lads), now isn't that a lot better, and it's also what should be played, as it was the regimental tune of the 24th (2nd Warwickshire) regiment of foot. Darn site better than 'Men of Horlicks'  agree

" BRITISH ARMY SOUTH WALES BORDERERS (BATTLE HONOUR).

HC Deb 17 April 1934 vol 288 c878 878
Captain A. EVANS (for Mr. TEMPLE MORRIS) asked the Financial Secretary to the War Office whether his attention has been called to the petition by the Natal provincial council for the grant of the battle honour of Rorke's Drift to the South Wales Borderers; and whether he can make any statement as to the attitude of his Department on this matter?

Mr. COOPER With regard to the first part of the question, I have no information beyond what has appeared in the Press. I am unable to say in advance what the attitude of the War Office would be if such a request were referred to them."
