Trooper Richard Walter Bold. Frontier Light Horse

"Trooper Richard Walter Bold first attested with the Frontier Light Horse on 14 March 1879 and served during the Zulu War (WO 100/48 - Medal roll p. 238 confirms).The Regiment was first raised in 1877 and fought throughout the Zulu War with Wood’s Column. Captain Barton, who commanded the mounted troops, was killed at the Battle of Hlobane Mountain where the Frontier Light Horse lost nearly 20% of the 156 of all ranks engaged. The regiment earned two Victoria Crosses during July 1879 before it was disbanded in December 1879. Bold is listed as one of only three buglers on Forsyth’s medal roll for the C.G.H.G.S. medal. The New England Mounted Rifles were raised in the Barkly East District during the South African War of 1899."

Hi all .
On further investigation in Terry Sole's book ' For God , Queen & Colony ' I see Richard Bold had the regimental number 366
and a ' J. Bold had the regimental number 363 , they both joined the same day 14 / 3 / 79 and were both engaged against the zulu . Educated guess here is that they were brothers !.
