"718 Pte. J. Broderick, 1/24th Foot.
Jeremiah Broderick enlisted at Newport, Monmouthshire, on 13 January 1876, just three days after 716 Robert Jones who went on to win the Victoria Cross at Rorke’s Drift. Broderick was posted to the 1st Battalion and was killed in action at Isandhlwana. The South Africa Medal Roll records him as entitled to the clasp dated ‘1877-8-9’, however, the medal was issued in error with the ‘1879’ clasp."
