"SURGEON-MAJOR JOHN NUGENT STOCK, late of the Royal Army Medical Corps, died at Cheltenham on June 17th. He joined the department as Assistant-Surgeon, March 31st, 1864; became Surgeon, March 1st, 1873, and Surgeon-Major, April 28th, 1876; retiring from the service, April 17th, 1889. He was in the Zulu war in 1879, being present at the battle of Ulundi, and receiving a medal with clasp; he was also with the Burmese Expedition in 1885-6, for which also he received a medal with clasp".
