"This is a list of men I have found in Australia newspapers who claimed to have served in the navy, or marines, in the Zulu War. George Kirkaldie – verified HMS Shah J. Glazbrook – verified HMS Shah Harry Figg – verified HMS Boadicea J. G. Sparkes – verified HMS Shah E. Highman – verified HMS Shah Henry Morgan Joseph Blacker Arthur John Sharman William Lacey F. Harvey Frank Buckley Sam Godkins Thomas Lennox Seaton R. Beck W. C. White, R.M.L.I. Some of these have already been covered in this forum, and some havn't. The archives of Australian newspapers are readily accessible. I wonder if the British papers of the same time period had as many claimants."

Thankyou, Yes E. Highman – verified HMS Shah is the man I am following as he is my great great grandfather. Yesterday I viewed his medal and this is how I came across this site from the information on the medal. Do you know if there are any photos to view?

Hi Beanie . According to the Forsyth Roll which is the Roll for all participants entitled to the South African War Medal for 1877 - 78 79 Your GGG'father was entitled to the medal with 1879 Clasp , which means he crossed the border and was in Zululand , more than likely part of the Shah's Naval Bgde detatchment . E. Highman is listed as an Able Seaman . Cheers 90th

Hi Beanie . I've checked the unpublished manuscript , sadly , the only other Info I found was his first name , Edwin , which you already know . . I've checked on here as well using the search box and nothing under the name of Highman turned up . You could use the search to check on the ' Shah's ' involvement during the war , it'll give you an idea of what Edwin may have done during that time . The search box is on the left hand side , beneath ' Red Ribbon Rewards of 2013 ' . Let us know if you or your family find anything , a photograph would be excellent . Looking forward to seeing the Medal Pic's . Cheers 90th

Hi Beanie . It's a pity Edwin wasnt wounded , sick or on the defaulters list , as there would've been a much better chance of finding more info on him . At least by searching the Shah here on the forum , you will get an idea of what Edwin was up to . Cheers 90th
