Sneaky. The 24th at the Seige of the Castle of St Philip 1756. Surrendered but 24th losses 6 killed and 61 wounded, French losses estimated at 5 thousand! Page 63 of Historical Records of the 24th. Byng was later shot by firing squad at Spithead.

Way back in the day we used to organise the Police promotion examinations from Constable to Sergeant and Sergeant to Inspector. There would be the serried ranks of eager policemen sat at desks in a large hall waiting to be told to turn their question papers over and begin. We lads would stick our heads around the door at an opportune moment, shout something very rude beginning "all coppers are.............." and scarper!
